Visitor Visa & Educational Exchange Compliance
South England Exchange programmes operate in accordance with UK Immigration Rules – Appendix Visitor: Permitted Activities (PA 2(b)), which allow visitors to take part in educational exchange visits with UK state-funded or independent schools.
Students attending through South England Exchange are visiting exchange students. They remain fully enrolled in full-time education in their home country throughout their stay in the UK. Placements are time-limited, typically lasting four to five months, and are designed as a one-off cultural exchange experience rather than a course of study.
During their visit, students are invited to observe and participate in school life alongside UK pupils. They are not enrolled as full-time pupils, do not work towards UK qualifications, and do not sit public or internal examinations. Any feedback provided by schools is descriptive and pastoral rather than assessed or graded.
The primary purpose of the programme is cultural immersion, English language development, and international exchange. In addition to school participation, programmes include structured cultural orientation and activities that support integration into UK daily life.
South England Exchange and our second organisation Cultural Experience also provide opportunities for British students to study abroad, including several scholarships.
No tuition fees are charged for teaching or instruction. Any programme fees relate solely to administration, pastoral support, safeguarding, and exchange coordination.
Where students are under the age of 18, all placements comply with UK safeguarding requirements, including host family vetting and, where applicable, private fostering notifications to local authorities.
These arrangements ensure that participation in a South England Exchange programme remains fully within the permitted activities of the UK Standard Visitor visa and does not constitute formal study under the Student Route.
