Short Pre-University Course
Three weeks to start university with confidence.
Pre-University Short Course
The best way to start university with confidence.
8th to 29th of August or 29th of August to 19th of September
Starting university is exciting, but it can also feel like a sudden step into a very different academic and social world. Many students arrive well qualified but unsure how to navigate independent study, seminar discussions, academic expectations and everyday life in a new country. This short pre-university course is designed to bridge that gap — giving students the confidence, practical skills and perspective they need to begin university life ready and prepared.
A soft landing in the UK
Students arrive, settle and adjust before university begins — with guidance, practical advice and time to feel comfortable in a new environment.
Small groups and thoughtful support
Brighton House is intentionally small. Students learn in small groups with approachable teachers and staff who take the time to know them.
Socially gentle, academically challenging
Helping students build confidence in discussion, independent study and university-style learning and living.
Module 1 – Critical Thinking
How do we know what is true? Students learn how to question information, evaluate sources and develop independent judgement.
Module 2 – Taking an active part in seminars
Many international students hesitate to speak in seminars. This module builds confidence in discussion, debate and expressing ideas clearly.
Module 3 – Academic Writing
Understanding university expectations: structuring arguments, referencing sources and writing clearly and persuasively.
Module 4 – Using AI Thoughtfully
How AI tools can support research and learning — and how to use them responsibly within university guidelines.
Module 5 – Independent Living
Practical preparation for student life: managing time, cooking simple meals, budgeting and organising daily life.
Module 6 – Social Confidence and Wellbeing
Building friendships, joining student societies and maintaining physical and mental wellbeing during the transition to university.
Personal Guidance
Alongside the group modules, each student has individual time with a qualified coach.
These short one-to-one conversations provide space to reflect on the transition to university — expectations, concerns and personal goals. The aim is not therapy, but thoughtful guidance to help students approach the start of university with clarity and confidence.

At Brighton House, this preparation takes place in an environment that is intentionally small and personal. For decades we have worked with young people from around the world, helping them navigate important educational transitions with care, experience and perspective. Brighton House itself is cosy and welcoming — a place where students quickly feel known and supported. At the same time, one of England’s most vibrant cities lies just outside the door. Students can walk to the seaside, explore cafés and independent shops, experience the energy of Brighton’s cultural life and, when they want quiet space, escape into the nearby countryside of the South Downs National Park. The result is a rare balance: a calm and supportive base combined with the excitement and independence of a real university city. It is an ideal setting to begin the next chapter with curiosity, confidence and a sense of possibility.
