Brighton House, just a 5 minute walk from Newman, is the centre of SEI and the heart of everything we do. More than this, it feels like home for students. Over the years, we noticed how much students needed this. On a typical day at The House, you would see students studying, cooking, playing Nintendo, table tennis, air hockey or chess. We provide bicycles so they can get to a big supermarket in 3 minutes and find ingredients to prepare a meal together. Of course, staff are always available for a chat or some homework help. Above all, The House is somewhere to belong. As we also find host families for British students attending Newman College from other parts of the country, we experience lovely friendships developing. Debate and Drama clubs also take place here. Several of our staff are trained as mentors or coaches. The little things make such of difference: We think of every student’s birthday, keep an eye on their wellbeing, make sure they have somewhere to go if they just want some space, and so much more.
